The new board of the National Museum of Ireland was announced on Friday by Minister for the Arts Heather Humphreys.

The new board of the National Museum of Ireland was announced on Friday by Minister for the Arts Heather Humphreys.

Chair designate is Catherine Heaney, founder of DHR Communications. The other members include John Bowen, former chairman of the Crawford Gallery and ex-chief executive of the Bowen Group; Mary Crotty, managing director of Mary Crotty PR; Ambrose Loughlin, chair of the audit committee of the Department of Finance and a partner at McCann Fitzgerald Solicitors.

Judith McCarthy is curator of Donegal County Museum; Denise Moroney is managing director Brand Dynamics and former head of marketing at The Irish Times; and Declan Nelson is a board member of Pobal.

Gearóid Ó Tuathaigh is former associate professor of history at NUIG and board member of the National Museum of Ireland; Andrew Power is head of registry at Dún Laoghaire Institute of Art Design and Technology; and Lynn Scarff is director of the Science Gallery.

The other appointments are Virginia Teehan, former director of the Hunt Museum in Limerick; Aidan Walsh, former director of the Northern Ireland Museums Council; Ingrid Hook, head of the School of Pharmacy at Trinity College Dublin; Kathleen James-Chakraborty, professor of art history at UCD; Mary O'Dowd professor of gender history; and Karen Wilson, staff representative at the National Museum of Ireland.
