The influence of the late DJ Rashad, who tragically died last month, is all over this 10-year refurbishment of the label founded by Steve "Kode9" Goodman. Some of the Chicago DJ and producer's most kinetic releases found a home on Hyperdub. So it's apt, given his part in the story, that he is included on this document of how the label's sound developed from its initial dubstep flush into something far wider and deeper. You also get both longstanding label favourites such as Burial (whose Untrue album pushed the imprint into the limelight), LV and Kode9, as well as a rash of potential future stars, including Flowdan with his deep, growling bass on Ambush. Meanwhile, some of the best tracks here, such as Cooly G's It's Serious or Kode9 & The Spaceape's Am I, act as reminders to return again to their individual albums. Here's to the next decade. hyperdub.net
