Sonja Landweer has consistently transcended any label applied to her. Trained as a ceramicist in Amsterdam, she was well established and respected by the time she came to Ireland to set up a studio for the then-fledgling Kilkenny Design Workshops in the mid-1960s.

Technically daring, Landweer has always reached for unconventional materials and processes and shown little regard for conventional definitions of fine art and craft. Everything she makes – sculpture, ceramic objects, fabric design, drawing and jewellery – is art, pure and simple.

This welcome exhibition is accompanied by a new publication on the artist by Dr Nicola Gordon Bowe and other writers, including a contribution by Seamus Heaney.
