A 31-year-old man has appeared at Monaghan District Court charged with murder and attempted murder of his mother and father in Co Cavan last weekend.
Danny Heyneman, of Kilnavart, Ballyconnell, Co Cavan, is charged with the murder of Annie Heyneman at Kilnavart on Saturday last, and the attempted murder of Henk Heijneman on the same date and at the same place.
Det Sergeant Sharon Walsh of Cavan Garda station gave evidence of arrest, charge and caution.
She said she arrested the accused on Tuesday at 9.45am at Cavan Garda Station and charged him at 10.43am.

She read over the charges and cautioned him. The accused replied “no comment” to the charges.
Court presenter Sergeant Lisa McEntee sought and was granted a remand to Friday at Cavan District Court for directions from the Director of Public Prosecutions.
Judge Raymond Finnegan assigned Damien Rudden, solicitor under the legal aid scheme, to represent the accused.
The judge told Mr Rudden he could not remand his client to Castlerea Prison, and would have to send him to a remand prison from where a request could be made for a transfer.
Judge Finnegan remanded the accused in custody to appear this Friday via video link at Cavan District Court.
