Passenger numbers at Cork Airport rose 8 per cent to 1.3 million in the first six months of the year, according to the latest figures.
The airport said 97,000 more people travelled through there in the first half of the year than did during the same period in 2015.
Kevin Cullinane, its head of communications, said that new routes and extra capacity on popular services aided the growth.
“This has resulted in the figures we are seeing today and expect the upward trend to continue,” he said.
“Developing new routes can be a time consuming process that requires a lot of work to demonstrate the potential of the region for inbound visitors as well as identifying the outbound market; but it does deliver real growth.”
Shannon Airport announced earlier this week that numbers there rose 4 percent to 791,155 in the first half of the year.
A spokesperson for the mid-western airport noted that numbers there were solid.
