Perhaps best known for hosting the Golden Globes with Tina Fey for four years running, comedian Amy Poehler also plays the hard-working, waffle-loving government employee Leslie Knope in US series Parks & Recreation. One gets the feeling that, cartoonish personality aside, Knope's egalitarian approach to life is proudly portrayed by Poehler.

Her new side project Amy's Smart Girls seeks to empower young women and provide positive role models, something I discovered after the project retweeted an Irish Times article on #GirlHackIreland.
