Google has confirmed the lease of an additional 51,000 sq ft of office space near its EMEA headquarters in Dublin's docklands, along with plans to set up an Irish team to support its cloud business.
The company said on Monday it had closed the long mooted deal to lease the Velasco building, which is a six storey facility located on the corner of Grand Canal St and Clanwilliam Place, which is close to Google’s current headquarters on Barrow St.
Fionnuala Meehan, vice president and head of Google in Ireland, said the company now employs more than 7,000 people in Ireland.
“Across our business we’ve seen continued growth in demand for our products and services, and here in Dublin we’ve we have started to develop a team to support our cloud business,” she said.
“The Google Cloud Platform remains one of the fastest growing businesses across Alphabet and we hope to benefit from that growth in Ireland too.
"I am delighted to announce that Gareth Morgan, vice president, is leading Google's cloud efforts in Dublin."
Fit out of Velasco is currently underway, and Google expects to occupy the building early next year.
