“It is a gripping drama of classical proportions, in which the tragic hero is Ireland,” says the press release for a film scheduled to begin production in TV3’s Sony HD Studio later this month. Prepare the smoke-filled room: we are going back to the night of the bank guarantee.

The Guarantee, written by Colin Murphy and based on his stage play Guaranteed!, features Morgan Jones as Sean Fitzpatrick, Peter Coonan as David Drumm, Gary Lydon as Brian Cowen and David Murray as Brian Lenihan.

Directed by Ian Power, the film will be produced by John Kelleher Media in association with the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland, the Irish Film Board and TV3.

“Ireland was the poor sister of Europe, who finally got a chance to go to the ball. But when she got there, she forgot herself; she stayed past midnight, and suddenly all her riches returned to rags,” the press release continues.
