Bank of Ireland’s online services were back this afternoon, after disruption earlier today left people unable to access services for more than an hour.
Customers reported problems accessing the 365 Online banking service and the bank’s mobile app. The latter caused problems with verifying payment for online purchases, causing chaos for consumers in advance of one of the year’s busiest shopping periods.
The bank said in-person card payments would have been unaffected by the issue. It apologised for the inconvenience to customers.
However, customers took to social media to vent their frustration at technical issues that have restricted their access to services, with some claiming it was a recurrent problem.

Other banks have suffered outages in recent weeks, with PTSB hit by a run of issues last month. On Black Friday, it apologised to customers after a “technical issue” meant payments from employers and pension providers did not show up in customer accounts.
It also had issues with its app on the same day, with customers advised to use to its website instead.
That came only a few weeks after customers were again left unable to access online banking services, due to a technical issue, and a problem in October that saw customers unable to get cash from ATMs and also unable to access the bank’s website and app.
