Niall Carew has been officially ratified as the new Sligo senior football manager for 2015, his appointment confirmed at a county board tonight.

Carew will also take charge of the Sligo under-21 football team, the Kildare native moving into the position having spent the last two seasons in charge of the Waterford footballers before resigning at the end of the season, citing lack of county board support.

From 2008-2012, Carew also served as forwards coach alongside then Kildare manager Kieran McGeeney.

Sligo found themselves searching for a new manager after Pat Flanagan failed to agree terms to continue for another year. Flanagan is now lined up to take over at his native Offaly, that appointment also due for ratification this week.

Carew (40) is also expected to include former Kildare forward Ronan Sweeney as part of his Sligo backroom team.
