Shortage of doctors

Sir, – I write in relation to the news report that there are more than 900,000 people on hospital waiting lists. There are almost 60 foreign trained doctors resident in Ireland awaiting Pres3 exams to get registered with the Irish Medical Council since 2019 (last exam was in October 2019).

Clearly the Government doesn’t think it’s necessary or else alternatives would be in place. With Covid-19 restrictions being eased, you would think the exam to have more doctors in the system would be a priority (it ideally should have been during the pandemic).

Unfortunately, we are still waiting to hear from them. It is sad for everyone as many of these doctors are mentally exhausted and frustrated and planning to move on to other countries.

I wish the Government wakes up and does the needful.
