Cork Airport

Sir, – Recently Cork Airport had an opening ceremony for its refurbished runway and only one women – Hildegarde Naughton, Minister of State at the Department of Transport– was evident in the photographs I have seen published. Two bishops were present, presumably to bless it. Any Cork politician who could squeeze into a photo was there.

There was no evidence of any of the workers who laboured over the past months or of the people likely to use the airport, whose tax money financed the project.

In 2021 did nobody organising an opening ceremony for a public airport notice that women had almost completely been omitted from the guest list – but they remembered both bishops. It must surely be an airport designed primarily for men.
