Officers are continuing to carry out inquiries at the scene and investigate the circumstances of the incident.

Detective superintendent Simon Giles said: "This is a tragic incident and specially trained officers are offering support to the wider family.

“A full investigation is under way.”

Police have yet to confirm the breed of dog involved.

The relationship between the baby and those arrested has not been confirmed. It is believed the girl was not at her home address at the time of the incident. Nobody else was injured during the attack.
