Fifty jobs are to be created in Ennis Co Clare with the announcement that Monster Cable Products (MCP) are to establish a service centre in the town.

The jobs are to be created over five years in areas such as finance, order administration, technical support, engineering mechandising and supply management.  About 40 per cent of the positions will require third-level qualifications.

The company, which is to be located in Ballymaley Business Park, will initially provide European business support but will later provide a global service.

MCP has operated in the European market since the early 1990s and is one of the world's leading manufacturers of high performance cables used to connect audio, video and computer systems.

Ennis was seen as the 'best fit' location for the new centre from a list of EU candidates, due to its closeness to Limerick City and Shannon Airport.

Ms Nancy Riddle, Chief Financial Officer of MCP, said that the centre will provide support for a growing European market. "We have come to the view that the European market is a growth opportunity and must be addressed with a local presence - the result is the establishment of this centre in Ennis," she said.

MCP was founded in 1979 in Brisbane, California, and is privately owned.
