The killing came a day after police reported the stabbing of three men in an incident in Lurgan, Co Armagh, which left a 23-year-old man in a serious condition in hospital.

Alan Carson, DUP mayor for the area, condemned the killing and appealed for anyone with information to pass it to the police. Sinn Féin MLA John O’Dowd said: “It just shows the consequences of people using knives in this manner. The consequences are fatal and are devastating,”
