A woman (60) died in Co Sligo in the early hours of the morning when her car left the road and entered a river.

The incident happened at around 12.30am when the car left the road and entered a river on the old Ballisodore Road at Carrowgubbdha, Co Sligo. She was the only occupant of the car.

The scene was closed pending an examination by Garda forensic collision investigators.

A man in his 40s died in a road collision in Co Laois when the car he was driving collided with a van. He was the sole-occupant of the car. The driver of the van was taken to the Midlands Regional Hospital where his condition is said to be serious.

The incident happened at 7.45am on the N80 at Moneyquid, Killeigh near Mountmellick. The road was closed pending a forensic examination.

Meanwhile, a seven-month old girl has died in Temple Street hospital as a result of injuries sustained in a car crash on Friday. Her 21-year-old mother received minor injuries in the collision.

Gardaí said the collision happened at 11.30pm when the car left the road at Ballinphuill, Castlerea, Co Roscommon and collided with a tree. No one else was involved in the incident.
