Gardaí were last night questioning two youths, one of them aged 14, about a shooting incident in which a man sustained head and face pellet injuries.

The incident took place at about 10.30pm on Tuesday at Ratoath Drive, Finglas, Dublin. The injured man is a 34-year-old from the area.

Gardaí believe the 14-year-old under arrest last night, who is also from the Finglas area, had earlier on Tuesday become involved in an altercation with the victim of the shooting.

They believe the boy later threw a rock at the man's car. When he stopped the vehicle to investigate, a 19-year-old man known to the boy opened fire with a sawn- off shotgun.

The victim sustained pellet wounds to the head and face. His injuries were said not to be life threatening and he declined to attend at hospital for medical treatment.

Gardaí were alerted to the shooting and carried out a number of searches on Ratoath Drive in the early hours of yesterday morning.

In the course of that follow-up operation a sawn-off shotgun and shotgun cartridges were found.

The two youths were then arrested and taken for questioning to Finglas Garda station.

They both remained under arrest last night and were being held under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act.

They can be held for up to three days without charge.

Anybody with information on this latest shooting is asked to contact Finglas Garda station on (01) 6667500.
