Six arrested as gardai smash stolen-car ring

Gardaí have arrested six men after a lengthy investigation into a stolen car racket in Co Wexford.

Gardaí have arrested six men after a lengthy investigation into a stolen car racket in Co Wexford.

A Garda spokesman said the six were detained this morning in the Gorey area and are being held in Garda stations in Enniscorthy, Gorey and Arklow, Co Wicklow.

He added that stolen cars were also seized during the "long Garda investigation".

Last month, gardaí broke up a major international crime gang that they believed had stolen and exported up to €3 million worth of high-powered luxury sports cars and motorbikes from the State in the past eight months.

Four gang leaders were arrested during a raid at a business premises in Co Kildare on February 23rd.

Garda sources said the gang members were dismantling stolen vehicles and packing them into 40-foot containers, which were then exported through Dublin Port. The vehicles were being driven across the Continent into eastern Europe, where they were being sold for parts.
