GARDAÍ IN Waterford are investigating a shooting at a house in the city yesterday, the third of its kind in two weeks.
A family of two adults and eight children escaped uninjured after shots were fired through a kitchen window at the rear of a house in Crystal Court, Kilcohan Park at about 12.10am yesterday.
Gardaí preserved the scene and a technical examination was carried out.
It is understood that the shooting was connected to a dispute between a number of Traveller families that arose during a bout of bare-knuckle boxing on July 12th in the city.
Garda searches three weeks ago led to the seizure of two sawn-off shotguns; 37 petrol bombs; a small quantity of ammunition and an assortment of weapons including slash hooks, machetes, hammers, pick-axe handles, swords, knives and hatchets.
It was reported that a peace deal was being brokered, and - until yesterday's attack - the situation had seemed to be calming down.
Last Tuesday, a gunshot was discharged in the Farran Park area of the city, while a similar shooting occurred at the housing estate five days previously.
Gardaí have so far arrested 15 men in connection with the dispute, with the majority currently remanded in custody pending further court appearances.
