Boolavogue as the sun was setting was abuzz with rumours last night as Saturday's National Lottery jackpot winners - who had bought their ticket in the village - claimed their spoils.
The winners, from Wexford, who collected their €7,373,469 windfall at National Lottery headquarters in Dublin yesterday, have decided to remain anonymous. Their jackpot had been made even bigger by the addition of €1,000,000 added by the National Lottery to celebrate Halloween.
“We're absolutely delighted. This has come completely out of the blue and we are now looking forward to making plans, and helping out family and friends,” the winners said over a glass of champagne at Lotto headquarters yesterday.
The new millionaires purchased their ticket at Lawless's store in Boolavogue on Saturday, the day of the draw. The €4 Quickpick selection with Lotto Plus was the first winning jackpot ticket sold by the Wexford store.
To date, Wexford players have won €40,820,347 in National Lottery games, with 53 Lotto wins in the county so far.
The biggest public Lotto win until now was by Larry Ryan in New Ross, who won €5,455,425 in March 2001. Willie Waters, another public Wexford winner, won €2,565,559 in March 1993.
Last night's Lotto jackpot was a guaranteed €2 million.
