IRELAND WEST Airport in Knock has announced a new daily service between Co Mayo and John Lennon Airport, Liverpool.
The service, which is to begin in October, is to be operated by Ryanair which already flies from Knock to four other destinations in Britain. The airport already has scheduled flights to nine British airports and chartered business to a further 10 mainly European destinations. It estimates the new service will add 100,000 passengers a year, bringing passenger numbers at the airport to more than 700,000.
Robert Grealis, airport chief executive, said the route should deliver 30,000 additional British tourists to the west and northwest of Ireland, with an associated spend of more than €12.5 million.
Liverpool is European city of culture in 2008. Ryanair said its flights there would start at €12.99.
