IT's an idea that other lead singers and songwriters of successful groups should take note of but probably won't - the creative freedom of touring small venues without the comfort of a safety net. Raul Malo (right), of Country crossover artists The Mavericks, has just completed a successful tour of the UK. His only Irish date at Dublin's Olympia Theatre next Monday will see him perform original material in English and Spanish, a few well chosen Mavericks' songs and several surprising cover versions. Percussionist, guitarist and backing vocalist Jaime Hanna, who has been part of The Mavericks' touring band for almost two years, will join Malo on stage. Support on the night comes from rising AOR/Country singer/songwriter Kim Richey, who will be playing songs from her recently released album, Glimmer.
