Three years ago, The Corrs would have been lucky to sell out Whelans. These days, they have just enough time in their schedule to fit in the occasional open-air event. There's no denying their popularity or the hard work they have put into achieving their success, but their by-the-numbers music (a mixture of derivative Los Angeles sunny pop and diluted Irish trad) is certainly open to criticism. Marketing conceits aside, in fairness the sibling band have managed to strike a chord or three among the population at large, which is what pop bands are supposed to do. Whether they will be able to project beyond their bland stage presence for a major open-air gig is another question altogether. The Corrs headline at Lansdowne Road today.
