UP to 80,000 Oasis fans are expected to hear the British bad boy band play in Cork's Pairc Ui Chaoimh tomorrow and Thursday night.

"There's a great buzz about the town," said Mr Hugh Coyle, general manager of the Metropole Hotel in Cork city. "The whole town is packed."

"We'd have sold every bed this week five times over if we'd been able," added David at Kinlay House Youth Hostel.

Mr Justin Green of the concert promoters said the concerts were estimated to be worth £7 million to the city.

The band's shows at Knebworth last weekend were the biggest open air gigs in English pop concert history, with 125,000 at each.

Although the Lee will not have quite that many Oasis fans, the 70,000 ticket holders will be just as enthusiastic.

Both Iarnrod Eireann and Bus Eireann are laying on extra services from Dublin and other major centres to ferry fans to Cork, and special trains and buses will return directly after the concerts.

Extra gardai are to be drafted into the city and there will be searches at barriers to the stadium.

"No one will be allowed bring any bottles in," said a garda inspector. "Beer will be available inside the concert."

Only those producing a valid ticket at ticket checks will be admitted to the stadium.

Car access will be via the Centre Park Road only and there will be no parking in the vicinity of Blackrock Road and Monaghan Road. Concert goers, are advised to park in Lavitts Quay car park, which will remain open late.

Those seeking accommodation tomorrow or Thursday night should call Cork Tourism at 021 273251.
