Garda technical experts are to carry out an examination later this morning to try and establish the cause of a blaze which killed a 22-year-old man in Cork city.
The fire broke out at an upstairs flat at Charlemont Tce on Wellington Road on the city’s northside just before 4.10am.
Three units of Cork city fire brigade attended the scene and found the man in an upstairs bathroom.
He was taken by ambulance to Cork University Hospital where he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
The man – who was renting a flat in the house - is originally from Cork city but gardaí have not yet released his name until all next of kin have been notified.
Firefighters using breathing apparatus helped evacuate six other flats in the building.
Gardaí have dispatched a technical team to examine the scene to try and establish the cause of the blaze once the building has been made safe to enter.
