The August Bank Holiday weekend will feature a range of sporting and cultural events, but showers across the country and extensive roadworks in Dublin may dampen the mood.
Sunny spells and scattered showers are expected on Saturday. Some of the showers will turn heavy during the afternoon and early evening, especially over Ulster and north Leinster, with temperatures ranging from 15 to 18 degrees.
On Saturday temperatures will fall to between 9 and 11 degrees, with occasional outbreaks of rain later in the night.
There will be heavier and more persistent rain on Sunday, but Monday will be brighter, with any lingering rain in Leinster and east Ulster expected to clear during the morning.
Bus diversions
Dublin Bus has issued warnings over diversions to bus routes that will be taking place.
Due to road resurfacing works at the junction of Aston Quay and O’Connell Bridge, Aston Quay will be closed from 8pm on Friday, August 4th, until 6am on Saturday, August 12th.
Passenger numbers at Dublin Airport are expected to surpass the 400,000 mark over the Bank Holiday weekend.
Amid fears of longer delays, Dublin airport has said tougher new EU Schengen-area passport checks do not apply in Ireland. The border controls have caused major delays at other European airports. However, there are delays in connection with US flights due to “enhanced security measures” by the US department of homeland security.
Street entertainment
The Waterford Spraoi Festival takes place this weekend. Street entertainment and theatre is on the menu, with the highlight being the parade which takes place on Sunday, with about 50,000 people expected to attend.
Thousands will be flocking to Deer Farm in Mitchelstown, Co Cork, for the Independence Music Festival from Friday until Sunday.
In Croke Park, Tyrone take on Armagh (4pm) on Saturday, followed by Dublin versus Monaghan (6pm) in the All-Ireland senior football quarter-finals.
On Sunday, Galway take on Tipperary (4pm) in the All-Ireland hurling semi-final, while the All-Ireland football quarter-final replay between Mayo and Roscommon will take place at 2pm on Monday.
