A 27-year-old man has died after his car crashed into a pole near the village of Legan, Co Longford, at about 11.10pm on Friday night.

He was pronounced dead at the scene and his body was removed to Mullingar Hospital.

The other occupant of the car, a 22-year-old man who was the front seat passenger, was taken to Tullamore Hospital with non life threatening injuries.

The scene of the collision in Legan is currently closed to traffic in order to facilitate an examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators and local diversions are in place.

Gardaí are keen to speak to anyone who may have seen the car involved, a 99 SO registered black Toyota Avensis, travelling in the area prior to the crash.
