Garda divers have recovered remains in the search for missing Meath man Joseph Whelan.

Members of the Garda Water Unit recovered a body during searches in lakes in Virginia, Co Cavan, on Saturday afternoon.

The discovery was made around lunchtime as searches continued for the missing 37-year-old who went missing on April 3rd.

Mr Whelan from Brindley Park in Ashbourne, Co Meath, left his home to that night to drive to Ballyjamesduff in Co Cavan to return two laptops to a friend. His car, a 2002 blue Volkswagen Passat was found parked in Swiftbrook estate in Virginia.
