The presentation was made to him yesterday by Minister of State for Labour Affairs Dara Calleary.

Mr Calleary described Mr Mulligan as the “unofficial chief advocate for health and safety in Ireland”. Mr Mulligan said he was honoured to be offered the award, and that he regarded his post at the journal as a “second career”.

He said he saw his role as a journalist as one of providing information, and not passing judgment.
