The Garda Representative Association (GRA) has suspended all motions at its annual conference to debate the policing of the forthcoming May Day festivities.
In a statement, the GRA said business at the meeting in Bundoran, Co Donegal had been put on hold to discuss the implications of the events next weekend and the safety of gardaí policing them.
The move comes following a briefing last night with the Garda Commissioner, Mr Noel Conroy.
Some 5,000 gardai and 2,500 soldiers are due in Dublin over the weekend to provide security for visiting heads of state attending the ceremony marking the accession of ten states to the European Union.
Several groups, including some from overseas, plan to gather in Dublin city centre and outside Farmleigh House to protest as the ceremony takes place.
