More than a million potentially dangerous sedatives have been stolen from a warehouse in north Dublin overnight.

Seventeen 25 litre drums containing one million Zopiclone sleeping pill as well as one drum containing 83,000 Flunitrazepam tablets were taken in the raid in the Baldoyle Industrial Estate, Dublin 13.

Flunitrazepam is the brand name for the so-called “date-rape” drug Rohypnol.

The robbery took place at a pharmaceutical company shortly after 3am when up to four men overpowered a security guard and took the drugs.

A dark-coloured four-wheel drive vehicle was used by the raiders but there is no description of the raiders available.

“The scene of the incident is preserved for technical examination,” a Garda spokesman said.

Members of the public have been warned that the drugs may be dangerous if taken without medical supervision. Anyone with information or who may have been offered these drugs for sale has been asked to contact the Garda in Howth on 01 666 4900 or the Garda confidential line 1800 666 111.
