An Irish professional footballer was questioned by gardaí in Dublin today in connection with an alleged violent assault in the city earlier this year.
The footballer, who is based in Britain and has represented Ireland, was arrested this morning under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act in connection with an incident in Buck Whaleys nightclub on Leeson Street on June 8th. He has since been released.
A man was hospitalised for treatment to a broken nose and damage to his teeth after allegedly being headbutted during the incident. He reported the incident to gardaí two days later.
Gardaí have taken witness statements from a number of people including security staff who intervened. They have also examined CCTV footage.
