The 42-year-old man received gun shot wounds to his face and body on a farm in the village of Churchill, near Letterkenny on Saturday morning.

A man has been shot in the face in a row over land in Co Donegal.

The incident happened in the Glenswilly area outside Letterkenny early on Saturday morning.

The victim (42) is understood to have suffered shotgun wounds to the face and shoulder.

The alarm was raised at 10.30am and the man was brought to Letterkenny General Hospital.

He has since been released but is being transferred to Galway University Hospital for further treatment. His injuries are not life-threatening.

The man was in a digger when he was approached by another man who released a number of shots.

A third man, who was with the victim, managed to flee the scene.

The area where the shooting took place at Ballina Killa has been sealed off by local gardaí, while detectives have begun an investigation into the incident.

One man is believed to be helping them with their enquiries.

The row is understood to have been sparked by a right of way on the land.
