Man arrested following armed raid on south Dublin bank

Gardaí have arrested a man following an armed raid on a bank in south Dublin this morning.

Two men, one of whom was reportedly carrying a firearm, entered a branch of Bank of Ireland on the Stillorgan Road near Belfield at about 11.30am.

They threatened staff before taking a quantity of cash and fleeing the scene in a white Saab vehicle.

The car was later found burnt out a short distance away in the Seamount Apartments complex in Booterstown.

Two of the raiders are then believed to have escaped on a motorbike.

However, they were pursued by a Garda patrol car which had been responding to the incident.

Following a brief pursuit, the passenger on the motorcycle was arrested in the Ringsend area by uniform gardaí.

The man in his 30s is being held at Irishtown Garda station. The motorcyclist is understood to have fled the scene.

There were no shots fired and no report of injuries during the incident. A firearm and an amount of money have been were recovered by gardaí.

“Enquiries are ongoing and further updates will follow,” a spokesman said.
