Gardaí in Co Louth have appealed for witnesses after a woman was hit by a car and seriously injured on Friday night.

A Garda spokesman said the 63-year-old was struck by a car on the R166 at Yellowgap, Termonfeckin at about 8.25pm.

She was taken by ambulance to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda and later transferred to Beaumont Hospital.

The occupants of the car were uninjured, the spokesman said.

The road is currently closed to traffic and the scene is preserved for examination by Garda forensic collision investigators. Traffic diversions are in place.
