Man in Tallaght court charged with money laundering

A man has been brought before Tallaght District Court charged with money laundering.

Derek Corr (28) who is originally from Tallaght but is now living in Rathcoole, appeared in custody before District Judge Bridget Reilly.

Mr Corr, of Forest Hills, Rathcoole, is accused of money laundering at Killinarden Estate in Tallaght on February 6th, 2014, contrary to Section 7 Criminal Justice (Money Laundering and Terrorist Financing) Act 2010.

It is believed to be one of the first prosecutions in the State under this legislation.

Detective Garda Gary Cooke told Judge Reilly he arrested Mr Corr at his home at in Rathcoole at 8am on Monday.

He said Mr Corr was taken to Tallaght Garda station and was charged by Sergeant Caroline Cullen at 9.32am.

Mr Corr made no reply when charged.

Det Gda Cooke said the DPP had directed trial on indictment.

He told defence lawyer Michael Hennessy that he had no objection to bail.

Judge Reilly asked Det Gda Cooke if Mr Corr had any history of bench warrants.

Det Gda Cooke replied: “No, there may have been one in the past but I believe it was a misunderstanding.”

He told Judge Reilly he would be looking for a signing-on condition.

Judge Reilly released Mr Corr on his own bail of €300 and on condition that he reside at his home address and that he sign on every Monday, Wednesday and Friday at Rathcoole Garda station.

She remanded Mr Corr to appear before Tallaght Court in a date in February for service of his book of evidence.
