A man was remanded in custody today charged with threatening to kill a shooting victim who died in a Belfast hospital.

Paul Edward Burns (30) faces a further count of disorderly behaviour in the Royal Victoria Hospital. Charges were brought against him following the death of Edward Gibson from injuries received in a gun attack in the Divis area of the city last Friday.

The victim, a 28-year-old father of one, was shot in the stomach and thigh in an alleyway at Clonfaddan Crescent. He died early the next morning.

Burns, from the west of the city but of no fixed address, appeared before Belfast Magistrates’ Court accused of threatening to kill Mr Gibson last Friday. The alleged disorderly behaviour incident occurred on the same date.

A detective involved in the investigation said she could connect him to both charges. No application for bail was made during the brief hearing. Burns was remanded into custody to appear again by video-link on November 18th.

A 57-year-old man who was arrested in west Belfast on Monday is still being questioned by police investigating the shooting. Two others, a man aged 33 and a 31-year-old woman, who were detained after the attack have been released pending a report to the Public Prosecution Service.
