THE DISCOVERY of an underground water spring by a water diviner using a twisted metal coat hanger, has provided a much needed jobs boost to a west Clare village.

Clare Spring Water Ltd yesterday announced the creation of 20 jobs with the opening of their €4.2 million plant to bottle water from underground springs six kilometres from Lissycasey.

The family-run business can produce 6,000 bottles of water per hour.

PJ Kelly, a local Fianna Fáil councillor and water diviner, said yesterday the spring was found “by accident”.

“I was asked by local man Paul Connellan to help locate a water source for a house he was hoping to build,” the councillor said.

Mr Kelly said he walked the land with a twisted metal coat hanger and ended up locating three underground water springs.
