Gardaí are continuing to question a boy (14) who was arrested last night over the alleged rape of a 15-year-old girl at a teenage disco in Rathmines.

Gardaí were called to the Tramco nightclub in south Dublin at about 11pm after the girl claimed she had been attacked in the men's toilets.

The girl was taken to the sexual assault treatment unit at the Rotunda Hospital.

The boy was arrested at the scene and taken to Terenure Garda station where he was held overnight. He is being questioned under section four of the Criminal Justice Act and can be detained for up to 24 hours.

Forensic experts carried out a technical examination of the scene this morning.

Gardaí are not seeking anyone else in relation to this incident but detectives said they will be taking statements from others who were on the premises at the time.

The disco was being attended by Junior Certificate students celebrating the end of their exams. Alcohol was not for sale at the venue and the premises was closed as soon as the incident was reported.
