A BOOK of evidence is expected to be ready within a fortnight to serve on a man charged with the murder of a New Age traveller in west Cork almost three years ago, a court has been told.

Jason Thomas (38), from Exeter in England, was in Clonakilty District Court yesterday charged with the murder of Englishman Garry Bull (37), at Shanlaragh, Dunmanway, on or about September 23rd, 2007.

Supt Pat Maher applied to have Mr Thomas remanded in custody for a further two weeks, adding that he expected the book of evidence to be completed by then, when it would be served on him.

Judge Tim Lucey granted the application and remanded Mr Thomas in custody to appear again on August 26th.

The court had previously heard that he had been arrested upon his arrival at Cork Airport following his extradition from Britain on a European Arrest Warrant.

Amanda McNab (25) and Una Geaney (44), both with addresses at Mullinagleamig, Dingle, Co Kerry, have already been charged with Mr Bull’s murder and have been returned for trial to the Central Criminal Court.

Mr Bull’s body was found in a slurry pit at the farm at Shanlaragh, north of Dunmanway, on October 10th, 2007.

A postmortem indicated he had died from severe head injuries consistent with being struck with a blunt instrument.

Mr Bull had been living in a mobile home in the Kilmichael area of west Cork between Dunmanway and Macroom, having come to live among the 200 or so of the New Age traveller community in the nearby Coole Mountain area about 2004.

Two men and a woman have already appeared before the courts in relation to withholding information from gardaí investigating the murder. All three received suspended sentences at Cork Circuit Criminal Court.
