Arts Council announces touring grants of €1.2m, up by €200,000

The Arts Council has announced special touring grants of more than €1

The Arts Council has announced special touring grants of more than €1.2 million, which will go towards funding 38 artists and organisations. The grant is a €200,000 increase on last year’s allocation.

The funding will go to a range of areas, including visual art, literature, theatre, dance and music. Among the organisations to benefit is the Abbey Theatre, which has been awarded €68,000 to help tour Carmel Winters's B for Baby, winner of the best new play at the 2010 Irish TimesIrish Theatre Awards.

The biggest awards have gone to Rough Magic Theatre Company (€124,000) and Second Age Theatre Company (€114,000). The Druid Theatre Company has been awarded €77,000 to tour John B Keane's Big Maggie, and the National Chamber Choir received €70,000 to tour.
