Agencies appeal for aid

Concern announced yesterday it had allocated £250,000 for emergency supplies such as tents, plastic sheeting and blankets. Concern tel: 1850 410 510.

The IRCS has allocated £25,000 to the relief effort and is planning to double the number of personnel on the ground. Irish Red Cross Society: 1850 507070.

Unicef said it had completed a delivery this week which would meet the needs of 40,000 refugees for the next three months. Unicef Kosovo Appeal: (01) 878 3000.

Trocaire has allocated £40,000 from its emergency fund to two sister agencies in the region, Catholic Relief Service in Macedonia and Karitas in Albania. Trocaire: (01) 288 5385 or 1850 408 408.

Earlier this week, the Government announced the allocation of £400,000 to the UN refugees' agency, the UNHCR, for relief projects.
