Air travellers in the south and southeast received a boost yesterday with the announcement of services from both Cork and Waterford airports which will help improve tourism and business links.
Aer Lingus last night announced that it was to start a scheduled service from Cork to Brussels on March 26th, with the three times a week service operating on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
Waterford airport has welcomed the news that Aer Lingus will operate regional services to and from the airport, saying that it will provide a major boost to tourism in the southeast.
Aer Arann currently operates services from Waterford to Luton, London-Southend and Manchester for Aer Lingus, but now the aircraft will carry Aer Lingus's own livery and logo, and flights can be booked through www.aerlingus.com
Waterford airport chief executive , Graham Doyle said there was huge traffic through the aerlingus.comwebsite and anyone accessing the site would now have the option of flying from Luton, Southend or Manchester to Waterford.
Mr Doyle said it was hugely symbolic for Waterford airport, which this year celebrates its 30th anniversary, to have the famed Aer Lingus shamrock logo flying out of the airport as it prepared for a busy St Patrick’s weekend.
