LG PH300 Minibeam Projector

If not quite pocket-sized, LG's Minibeam Projector is still only the size of a packed travel wash bag. Its LED projection lamps promise an estimated lifetime of over 30,000 hours' use – more than enough to run a movie a day for the next 25 years. The PH300 plays full HD, throwing out a 2.5m wide picture from HDMI or USB inputs; and it's got a built-in TV tuner, so you can pick up local off-air stations too. $450 from lg.com

Poler Napsack

If you really like to travel snugly, Poler has engineered something cosy for you: a sleeping bag crossed with a full length hoodie. So it can seamlessly evolve from a microfibre-filled puffy coat to a puffy sleepy bag with the minimum of effort. There are pockets, a channel to route earphones and a couple of zips to navigate, but nothing too stressful. A teenager might have to have it surgically removed. €121 from polerstuff.com

Livescribe 3 Smartpen Moleskine Edition

The ever-expanding Moleskine notebook family has to be a positive story given the proliferation of variations. This is another response to the digital apocalypse, in partnership with Lifescribe. The smartpen automatically captures notes as you write and instantly makes a digital copy which you can edit or, say, email on a smartphone or laptop. €250 from moleskine.com/irl
