LITERARY DUBLIN:TOURISTS CAN get closer to their literary heroes by joining Dublin's new Flying Book Club for a three-day break. It was started by Eibhlin Evans to help tourists leaf through our literary history in the Unesco City of Literature.
Evans, who used to teach English at UCD, says: “There’s an enormous appetite for Irish writing throughout the world and among tourists who come to Ireland.”
While there are plenty of literary tours on offer here, her programme is different, she says, because participants have an input. Experts give talks and tours but those taking part are encouraged to give their views. After the visitors return home they can continue the literary discussions on a web forum, of which they become life members. The three-day programmes include talks by experts, discussions, visits to key places and guest talks or theatrical performances.
