Students can travel to UK for free
Parents packing up cars to bring their offspring across the Irish Sea to university in the UK this autumn will this year once again be offered a special rate by Stena Line.
Students accompanied by an adult with a car will travel free, with the adult and car costing €90 one-way, if the booking is made by September 30th. For further information, go to www.stenaline.ie/student.
Laughs in the North
Ardal O'Hanlon, Rich Hall and Kevin McAleer will be playing for laughs in Derry next month. Billed as Northern Ireland's largest comedy festival, the Big Tickle (September 5th to September 14th) will take place in venues across the city for nine days.
Also appearing will be Colin Murphy, Andrew Maxwell, David O'Doherty, Reginald D Hunter and Phil Nichol. www.thebigtickle.com.
Challenge for cancer
Avid hikers and infrequent amblers alike are invited to participate in the Slieve Donard Mountain Challenge on September 13th, in aid of Marie Curie Cancer Care. Near the seaside town of Newcastle, Co Down, on the east coast, Slieve Donard is Northern Ireland's highest mountain. The mountain is an easy climb, and in recent years a stone path has been laid on the steepest parts of the mountain to enable trekkers to ascend safely.
