Award for Mack
Go columnist Catherine Mack has won the "best in responsible tourism writing" category at the Virgin Holidays Responsible Tourism Awards. Mack won the award for an article that appeared in her Ethical Travellercolumn entitled "Tourism must tap into the water issue".
The article won praise for its honest view of the often overlooked issue of water consumption by travellers.
A luxury safari company, Robin Pope Safaris, and a social enterprise operating walking tours of London by the homeless (Sock Mob Events/Unseen Tours), were the joint overall winners of the responsible tourism awards.
Warming to welcome
Dublin's City of a Thousand Welcomes has been named as one of the best free things to do in Europe by the Sydney Morning Herald. The service allows first-time visitors to Dublin to have a free drink and chat with a Dubliner as a welcome to the country.
The volunteers meet visitors and stand them a drink in one of three Dublin institutions: the Merrion Hotel, Bewley’s Cafe and the Porterhouse.
