CO MAYO: €950,000:THEY don't come much more remote than Grouse Lodge in Bracklagh, Newport, Co Mayo, a restored country house on 62 acres with a guest cottage, and access to Beltra Lough.

Colliers International is asking €950,000 for the five-bedroom house, located 10 miles from Castlebar, which comes with the obligatory long tree-lined avenue.

A wild and beautiful place to live, according to Colliers International, sea trout and salmon can be fished later in the season by arrangement.

Although bigger than the average lodge, the house has a few lodge-style features including low beamed ceilings and pitch pine floors in the big drawingroom, the diningroom and the kitchen.

Other rooms include a butler’s pantry and a study. The kitchen/breakfastroom is perfect for an old country house with a big Aga, a beamed ceiling and for extra effect, the current owners have a long rustic wooden table in the breakfast area.

The one-bedroom guest cottage has a sittingroom, kitchen and bathroom and a loft, currently in use as a playroom.

Outside there’s a boat store and greenhouse, a first yard with a laundry room, workshop, two loose boxes and a mare and foal box.

Another yard has a two span barn with a lofted hay store, three loose boxes, and a feed barn.
