Fingal County Council is considering a planning application to turn the 70-acre Courtlough clay pigeon shooting grounds in Balbriggan, Co Dublin into a larger sports, entertainment and equestrian complex.

The family-run business - Courtlough Property Developments - is looking to redevelop the grounds into a centre that will attract a range of sporting enthusiasts and corporate groups looking to avail of team-building events and so on.

Established in 1996 by former Irish Olympian Richard Flynn and his son, William, Courtlough also offers target shooting and archery.

The proposal is to considerably expand the facilities to include an equestrian centre with 20 stables, horse trekking, an attenuation lake with 10 fishing areas, an archery range and a dog trekking area.

A fun-sport centre would offer paintball and adventure sports.

Courtlough is also seeking to extend the existing clubhouse to provide new dining rooms, bars, seminar rooms and changing rooms.

Other additions would include a single storey covered driving range, an administration building and workshop, and additional car-parking spaces.
