WE HAVE it on authority that Bertie Ahern isn’t hiding out under the stairs of 14 Cian Park in Drumcondra Dublin 3, but his other bolt-hole, St Luke’s constituency office, is in such close proximity that any future buyer would practically be in its back yard.

There was a time when people paid big money to get close to the former Taoiseach but this three-bedroom house behind the Fianna Fáil constituency office St Luke’s is on the market for €150,000.

Number 14 Cian Park is on a small cul-de-sac of terraced houses behind St Luke’s, and according to Lisney, wasn’t hit by floods in 2002. Since then there have been remedial works on the Tolka.

Lisney says the house near Bertie Ahern’s other haunt, Fagans pub, has been “substantially discounted”.

Two years ago it went on the market asking €395,000 before being reduced to €300,000 and then being taken off the market.

The agent reckons the house will mainly be of interest to cash buyers because it’s unlikely a bank would offer a mortgage: it needs refurbishing and has subsidence to the rear .

Close to the city centre, it’s fairly spacious at 100sq m (1,076sq ft) and has two interconnecting reception rooms with tiled open fireplaces.

The kitchen has been extended and there’s also a breakfast area. Outside there’s a west-facing concrete yard to the rear.

It is on open view on Saturday from 2pm-3.30pm.
